YouTube is swamped with countless covers of Taylor Swift songs, from Tiffany Alvord’s Blank Space cover which has 10 million views to Imagine Dragons doing a completely different rendition of the same song in the BBC Live Lounge. If you type “Taylor Swift cover” into YouTube, more than 2 million results will pop out. There are simple web cam videos from 2008 which feature Swift’s song Love Story, and there are also quality, highly produced videos of pop stars or YouTube stars belting out her biggest hits. And don’t forget the hilarious goat videos screaming to I Knew You Were Trouble, which even the singer found hilarious.
So it comes as a pretty big honor to be the chosen as the favorite cover musician by the pop star herself. Swift took to Twitter to declare: “There have been so many amazing covers of 1989 songs… I’m going to be bold enough to say this one is my favourite,” referring to Vance Joy’s cover of her song I Know Places. Coincidentally, Joy is announced as the opening act for the whole leg of Taylor’s 1989 tour in the US and Europe. Maybe it will even be featured as a part of his line up, it would surely sound amazing live.
