The seemingly endless cycle of violence in Ferguson, Missouri, continued on Wednesday night. During a protest outside the Ferguson police station that was mostly peaceful, shots rang out and two police officers went down with bullet wounds. The Associated Press reports that the protests were taking place outside the station following the resignation of the city’s police chief.
According to reports, the protests were largely peaceful until the shots were fired and the officers were wounded. While the names of the two Ferguson officers have not been released, the St. Louis County police did say that a 32-year-old officer from nearby Webster Groves was shot in the face and a 41-year-old officer from St. Louis County was shot in the shoulder. Both were taken to a nearby hospital, and both were said to be awake and alert during transport to the hospital. Authorities wouldn’t give details about the injuries after the shootings in Ferguson, but they did say they were “serious”.
The protest in Ferguson was just the latest gathering of citizens who are unhappy with their police force. In Madison, Wisconsin, protests have been ongoing ever since police shot and killed an unarmed 19-year-old black man.
