It looks like Eddie Murphy will finally be returning to a dramatic role. It’s just been confirmed that the former SNL comedian will be starring in a brand new film directed by Lee Daniels. Daniels posted a photo of himself and Murphy on his Instagram, hinting at Eddie’s involvement.
This new biopic will be based on the life of Richard Pryor and Murphy is set to play LeRoy “Buck Carter” Pryor, Richard Pryor’s father. Mike Epps has been cast as the now deceased comedian, with Kate Hudson playing his former wife, Jennifer Pryor.
This will be Murphy’s first dramatic role since his appearance in the box office hit Dreamgirls in 2006. He’s been spending most of his time writing music and doing comedy so this will be a nice change of pace. His recent actions on SNL’s 40th anniversary caused a lot of controversy, so it will be interesting to see how audiences react to him on the big screen. Hopefully he still has the acting chops to pull off this dramatic role.
