Recently, a Buddhist monk was arrested in LaGuardia Airport after he was charged with embezzling $150,000 from the temple where he was once served in an effort to finance his gambling addiction.

According to prosecutors, Buddhist Khang Le ended up hooked on blackjack in 2011 or 2012 and would frequently withdraw money from the temple in Louisiana. The temple, the Vietnamese Buddhist Association of Lafayette, once held Le as a high-ranking official, however that position is no longer his.

Le was arrested at LaGuardia this past weekend after investigators discovered he would arrive on a flight from Dallas on his way to Canada to purchase a used vehicle. Le appeared in court in Brooklyn, and according to Le’s lawyer in Louisiana, the Buddhist monk is actually a good man. It is unclear whether or not Le will spend time in prison for this crime, or whether or not he will be returned to his home state following the trial.
