Buried treasure and lost gems are something we see in fictional movies with pirates and thieves. While it’s been proven that pirates don’t bury their loot, there’s all kinds of long lost treasure that’s worth millions out there waiting to be discovered once again. Who would have guess there are all sorts of gold, gems, emeralds, pearls, silver, among other precious artifacts that are just hidden beneath the ground or under the seas. Forrest Fenn is one rich collector and in 1988 he was diagnosed with kidney cancer with only about a year left to live. Going out with a bang, Forrest decided to take several gems, gold, Chinese jade carvings among various other riches and lock them within a chest. From there Forrest went to the Rocky Mountains and buried it saying that whoever finds the treasure chest gets to keep it and the contents within it. No one has yet to claim the treasure, but Forrest did give a riddle to where its location may be.

If you find a ship in the middle of a desert, chances are it’s a mirage. Although, if you happen to be in a desert located in California then take your chances as it may pay you in black pearls. In 1612, Juan De Iturbe was sailing a Spanish galleon that was filled with black pearls from the Mojave. During his trip, a wave knocked the crew and ship into the drying lake of Cahuilla. Forced to continue on foot, the crew abandoned the ship and contents as they hiked over 300 miles to safety. No one has fully confirmed their findings of this desert galleon so it’s very likely that these black pearls are still scattered about.
The original patent papers for Wilbur and Orville Wright’s concept flying machine are missing. Originally these papers were kept at The National Archives, a giant location that keeps track of very important documents and it wasn’t until 2003 that it was discovered the patent papers were stolen. It’s unknown of how much these papers are worth but they are valuable enough that a task force was placed to locate the papers among other documents that went missing from the archives.
Back in the 19th century, there was a massive gold rush. One miner, Jacob Waltz, found a massive vein filled with gold within the mountains of Arizona.
